Notes:
James and Margaret are talking about the teacher-parent interview. This event usually takes place once a term (in primary schools) or once a year (in secondary schools). In the teacher-parent interview, parents or those with parental responsibility for children discuss with the class teacher their child's progress, and any problems or difficulties are raised.
Devise a listening comprehension activity based around the recording. Perhaps focus on the purpose of the teacher-parent interview; the topic of Margaret's discussion with the teacher; Margaret's stance and attitude towards the interview (as a step-parent).
Discuss the teacher-parent interview with your students, some of whom may have attended one. What did they talk about? Did they find it easy to discuss their child's progress? What did they find difficult?
Focus on the highlighted vocabulary and chunks of language (see notes).
