Wendy: What do you think is a good citizen?
Roxana: It's about being active, being able, willing and equipped to help your community, your. the social group in which you move. Maybe making positive contributions to public life as well.
Wendy: How long have you been here and did you become a British Citizen?
Roxana: Yes, I came in 1988 which is now eighteen years isn't it, eighteen years ago I came to this Country, and originally my intentions were to finish off a Masters in Dental Public Health, which I finished. I met my now husband, in those days he was doing a PhD in Maths. Mathematics, and we got together we got married, and soon after that I got like a permanent leave to remain and I applied for my citizenship in this Country, but in those days the test was totally different. You had to sign an Allegiance to the Queen, or you had to sign. you had to vow on a Bible. And then you had to get somebody who was a person of standing, particularly like a Magistrate or a Minister or both, and then swear in front of them that you were going to defend this country, no matter what. So, that was sixteen years ago, and I believe that things have changed quite dramatically nowadays.
Wendy: That's right. Yes.
